Dada
The Dada art time period began in 1916 and ended in 1923. It started as a reaction to World War 1, nationalism, and rationalism. The people wanted to come together to show that they were mad that the war was even allowed to happen. This time period included many diverse types of art. The different types included were photogrpahy, sculptures, paintings, and collages. It was also a very influential type of art in Paris, New York, and and Berlin. Its characteristics include whimsical, colorful, sarcastic, and silly images. The only rule of the movement was to not follow any known rules! Some of the key artist during the Dada art time period were Max Ernst, Kurt Schwitters, and Hugo Ball. Their well known pieces include: "The Gramineous Bicycle," by Max Ernst, "Merzpicture 46A. The Skittle Picuture," by Kurt Schwitters, and "Performing at Carbaret Voltaire," by Hugo Ball.
