Fauvism
The Fauvism art time period started in 1899 and ended in 1908. This time period consist of intense colors to describe lighting and space and communicates the artist's emotional state. Some characteristics of the pieces include thick dabs and smears of paint, unique and unnatural colors, and following its own mood and rhythm. Most of the paintings from this time period consist of simplified forms and delineate shapes as well as landscapes and everyday scenes. The key artist during this time were Henri Matisse and Paul Gauguin. Their most famous pieces of work include "A Woman with a Hat," by Henri Matisse and "Tahitian Landscape," by Paul Gaugin.
